27. Elder Law

Our population is aging and the baby boomers, yes you, are heading into the “elder” stage.  What does this mean for paralegal programs?  Elder law is an area that gives your paralegal students another element to their education.  This session will focus on how to create an elder law component in your program with needs assessment, utilization of community resources, and course content materials.

28. Internships – Creating a Course for Success

Making a paralegal student ready for internships and employment begins on day one.  This session will provide assignments that transcend multiple classes in preparation for the culminating event. Attendees will look at successes, challenges, value, soft skills, and the benefits to the college.

Now that you have an assessment plan, measurable goals and objectives and assessment tools, what’s next?  Learn how to execute your plan, including meeting your timelines, gathering and analyzing results, disseminating the results and using the results to improve your program.

30. Engaging Students Through Humor

This session will provide attendees with a variety of methods to “spice up” a class while delivering course content.  Various tools, such as puzzles, games, fun cases, alternative teaching, and video clips will be provided.

31. Facilitating Quality Online Discussions

Developing quality online discussions requires well-thought-out strategies.  The panelists will cover areas such as creating clear expectations, devising good discussions, knowing when to step into a discussion and when to stand aside as instructor, handling the student who "hogs" the discussion, determining optimal discussion-group size, unveiling discussion questions as the discussion progresses, and creating grading rubrics.
